Cudahy Garden Milwaukee Art Museum

Milwaukee, WI

The last major project we completed at the Office of Dan Kiley before his retirement was the Cudahy Gardens at the Milwaukee Art Museum located on the shores of Lake Michigan. In response to the sculptural building designed by Santiago Calatrava our design provides a counterpoint to the lines and movements of the architecture. The design has granite cobble plazas appropriately scaled for the architecture and large crowds with the major feature of the design being a 500 foot long curtain of water running the length of the site and anchored by two large infinity edge pools with 50 foot tall fountains. The site drops approximately 9 feet along its length which is absorbed by sloping lawn panels with lateral walkways and hedge panels defining the drops at each parterre.
