Junto Farm
Millbrook, NY
Master plan and landscape design for a 150 acre private residence. A modern house of mahogany and glass on a grass plinth overlooking the Taconic mountain range. The landscape approach required extensive intervention to heal acres of land which were clear cut revealing a shaly, poor soils profile. The plan strategy was to unify and create positive dialog with the architecture and heal the land with native species. The owner wanted an “edible” landscape, so the meadows and wooded areas are dotted with fruit, nut and berry plants along walkable meadow and woodland pathways. Elements of the plan include belvedere with council ring with dramatic mountain views, pool, tennis court, hedge maze, several orchards, trout pond, solar installation, meadow reclamation and an extensive private outdoor art collection.
