Patterns du Pont Residence
Rockland, DE
The original Master Plan was completed in 1991 by the Office of Dan Kiley (Peter Morrow Meyer Senior Designer), with a very few elements constructed at that time. In 2003 RMLA assumed responsibility for the project and updated the Master Plan and began a long process over many years of overseeing construction. The residence, a modern brick construction designed by Ike Colburn in 1964 named “Patterns” is situated in a magnificent old growth forest along the Brandywine River. The design is an interconnected series of spaces and experiences unifying the architecture with both man made and natural landscape garden features. The design features include courtyards with fountains, a French Potager, walled lap pool garden, spa garden and a sculpted hillside dining terrace woven together with a system of paths winding through the forest. This project was a unique collaboration with a client who has extensive horticultural experience and knowledge resulting in a complex and unique palette of plant material.
